Artist statement

The human form reflects not only the physical body but also the nature or measure of that individual. Sculpture allows me to explore the nuances of different forms.

I think of myself as a storyteller working with clay instead of words.  While not necessarily auto-biographical, I use my life experiences to insert bits of humor, hardship, happiness, and hope into my work.  Clay allows me to experiment endlessly, imperfectly, and without judgment.

My finished pieces suggest the evolution of the human form through processes such as suffering, grief, resilience, perseverance, and transformation.
